Welcome to St Mary's Catholic Primary School

A very warm welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School –

We are a family at St Mary’s. Our school is small enough for us to know every child and family as individuals, yet big enough that we can offer our children an extensive range of learning opportunities and facilities.

As Catholic educators we recognise the uniqueness of every child, and seek to celebrate and nurture their ambitions, talents and god-given gifts. With Christ at the Centre, we enable every child to flourish and reach their full potential. Our knowledgeable, dedicated staff are committed to doing their very best to support each pupil to grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically.

We work consistently to achieve excellence in everything that we do, and place particular focus on providing a rich and challenging academic curriculum. Our ambitious curriculum equips our children with the knowledge and skills that they need for future success. Together, we plan inspiring learning experiences throughout the school so that every child can achieve and be challenged to do their very best.

At St Mary’s we believe in fostering a culture of care and nurturing positive relationships. We recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents to achieve the best outcomes for children. We encourage our pupils to develop lifelong, caring relationships based on mutual respect and kindness. Our school is a place where children learn to be confident, independent, ethical thinkers who leave us ready to go out into the world and make a difference.

Thank you for visiting our website, we warmly invite you to visit our special school and see it for yourself.

Dear Parents and Carers, With the warm weather forecast set to rise on Wednesday and Thursday, we are making some adjustments to help ensure that all children remain comfortable and safe during the school day. As an optional measure, parents may collect their child at 1:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday this week. If you would like to take advantage of this arrangement, it is essential that we know in advance so that we can organise dismissal safely and efficiently. Please indicate whether your child (one form per child) will be collected at 1:30pm by completing the Google Form linked below as soon as possible. If you wish for your child to remain in school, there is no need to complete the form. Year 6 pupils who already have permission to travel to and from school independently may leave school at 1:30pm without being collected. Please indicate this on the Google Form as well. Children who remain in school will continue with their normal learning activities, with regular water breaks, access to shaded areas and adjustments made to physical activity where appropriate. For those who will be going home at 1:30pm, the following dismissal arrangements will be made: Reception & Year 1: will be dismissed from the school office Year 2 - Year 6: will be dismissed from the KS1 playground We would also appreciate your support in ensuring that children: Bring a named water bottle to school each day Wear their school sun hat or a suitable hat Have sunscreen applied before coming to school Thank you for your understanding and support as we manage the hot weather conditions.

Dear Parents and Carers, With the warm weather forecast set to rise on Wednesday and Thursday, we ...

Good afternoon, The below message was sent out this morning but it has come to our attention that some families did not receive this communication so sharing the message here too: Dear Parents, As the warmer weather temperatures continue to rise, we have extended our warm weather protocols so that everyone can enjoy the sun in safety.  These include having fans in every classroom, ensuring that children are hydrated and have access to water throughout the day, and that they are not outside for prolonged periods during the warmest parts of the day. Please can you ensure that children have sunscreen applied before they come to school and that they have a sun hat to wear when they are outside.  They may also like to bring their own handheld fans into school. We are also allowing children to bring sunscreen into school, so that they can apply more themselves before they go out at lunchtime. Please note that school staff cannot apply sunscreen for children. Boys will not be required to wear ties to school this week. We will also be keeping a close eye on children with asthma. Thank you for your support, Miss Keane

Next week is EYFS Fathers' Story Week. We are inviting  dads from Nursery and Reception to volunteer to read a story to our EYFS children, either at drop-off in the morning or just before they leave. In this National Year of Reading, we are doing everything we can to promote reading for pleasure - reading stories aloud to young children accelerates brain and language development, introduces new vocabulary, and builds attention span. It provides a safe space for them to process emotions, sparks their imagination, and fosters a lifelong love of reading. Please sign up if you can.
