Dear Parents and Carers,
We have now arrived to the beginning of the summer term! Since our situation is now looking to be more long term, this is the new plan. Please read through as some information has stayed the same but some has changed.
Each week, a set amount of work will be uploaded for the children to do. There will also be PowerPoints available to give input to the children on how to do lessons. Please see the schedule below:
We began learning joined handwriting and we would like this to carry on while we are away. You can find the handwriting progression sheet which shows how to form the letters to help your child on the Homework page. We have also provided a 100 square, Phonics Phase 2-5 Mat, a capital and lower case letter sheet and a high frequency word mat to help the children at home.
Please check through children’s work if you are able when they have finished in order to clarify any misconceptions or help them when needed. We encourage the children do work independently but understand that they may need support.
When writing please allow them to independently answer and write; they can use the mats to help themselves. We have been learning to edit our work which means reading through and checking for capital letters, punctuation and spelling of known words. Children can do this after they write using a pen of any colour to show the corrections they make. Please encourage children to think of the language they use such as adjectives to make it more interesting as well as use connectives such as and, but and also correctly.
For PE, we recommend the following activities, which can be done at home:
If you have already been in touch regarding printing, this will be left at the office for you. Please remember to only request this if you do not have access to a printer. We understand that it will eventually add up to quite a bit of paper, so we suggest that if there activities that your child could look at the sheet on a tablet or phone and then write the answers then that might cut down on what you have to print. Some sheets like handwriting will need to be printed, it is at your discretion.
English and Maths homework will continue to be uploaded as well. This is optional, it can be done as additional revision of the week’s activities if you or your child would like to do it. Spellings and mental maths will also be available.
On Fridays, we would appreciate if you could speak to your child and email the Year 1 email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) with 3 things they enjoyed/found easy and 3 things they found difficult. This will help us to plan future weeks and gauge what the children have attained. We can then plan to do it when we return or try another way to teach it to the children.
We understand that this is a stressful time and that you have a lot going on with your jobs and being home all together. Please don’t stress if work is not done, we understand that this is a difficult situation. If you could support the children with Maths and English we would appreciate this and if they are able to do the other subjects then that is great too.
Thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you soon,
Mrs Appleton and Mrs Chiocca
