Our School Governing Body is made up of appointed foundation governors, elected staff members (both teaching and non-teaching), elected parents and an appointed representative from the local authority. Meetings are held every term where Governors carry out their strategic role of determining the future of the school and work with the Headteacher and staff on improving school standards.
Governors play a vital role in the running of the school. They work directly with the Headteacher and staff to:
Ensure the standard of education is constantly improving.
Act as a critical friend.
Decide priorites for the allocation of the school budget.
Recruit and select staff.
The governors of our school are:
Mr K. O’Rourke - Chair
I have been a parishioner in Chiswick for over twenty years and our three Children attended Saint Mary’s Primary School.
I am the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) for a large international financial institution and I sit on the Supervisory Board of a subsidiary entity in the Netherlands.
Mrs B. Barber - Foundation Governor
Mr R. Kelly - Foundation Governor
All three of my children (a daughter and two sons) attended St Mary’s R.C. Primary School, the last of them leaving in September 2014, after many happy years.
I am a practicing Catholic and live in the Parish of Our Lady of Grace and St Edward (where I – some time ago now - was baptised). I am a Minister of the Word and a Catechist for Confirmation, and was very pleased to be asked to join the Governors last year: so it’s a new challenge, but a familiar school, community and Parish.
I work in advertising, and have specific responsibility for global communications strategy.
Mrs C. Sutherland - Foundation Governor
I am a practising Catholic and have lived in the Parish of Our Lady of Grace and St Edward all my life. I am actively involved in the Parish and was asked by Canon Tony to join the Governing Body.
I am now in my second term as a Foundation Governor. I am very pleased to be involved with the Parish school and would like to see it expand in order that more children from the Parish could be admitted.
Mrs V. Santer - Foundation Governor
The early part of my career was spent in education – both in England and in Canada. I then moved into advertising and now work with the health sector on change programmes, primarily around stakeholder engagement. A varied and interesting career but throughout I have never lost my belief in the vital importance of importance of education, particularly the pastoral care we provide our young people.
I became a Foundation Governor in 2014 and joined Our Lady of Grace & St Edward’s Parish Council in 2015. Previously I was a trustee of CAFOD and of Age UK (Hammersmith & Fulham).
Mrs J. Walkin - Foundation Governor
Having moved to Britain in 1988, I have a background in banking and I.T. Project Management and all three of my children attended St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. As Inclusion Governor I am focused on ensuring all groups from our most able to those with special education needs continue to make excellent progress. I am a member of the Parish Bereavement Support Group. I decided to become a governor because it gave me an opportunity to give something back to the school my children had been so happy at and I have just commenced my fifth year as a Foundation Governor. As Chair of School Expansion I want to help move the School to two forms of entry to ensure we can educate more children in the catholic faith. My hobbies include pilates and travelling.v
Mrs C. Hayes - Parent Governor
I have three children currently at St Mary's and having been actively involved in many aspects of school life, am relishing the opportunity to be Parent Governor. I run a small Talent Agency, representing Comedy Writer/Performers and I hope that managing their many and varied careers has given me the necessary skills to now represent my fellow parents!
Mrs S. Haviland - Parent Governor
I am a Parent Governor at St Marys and Chair of the Finance and Premises committee. I have two children at the school. I was also Chair of the PTA for two years before becoming a Governor. My day job is running new ventures for an Edtech business and I am also a mentor for social start ups helping young people into work.
I love my role as a Governor and I hope it helps me support the community and parish
Mr N. Gowing - LEA Governor
I run a small Architects practice in Chiswick, and both my children attend St Mary’s. I like keeping Mr Oakley and his team on their toes, and actively encourage Governor meetings to be as concise as possible. I am a strong believer that with the right team anything can be achieved.
Mr C. Lavelle - Foundation Governor
I joined as a Foundation Governor just over 4 years ago after being approached by Cannon Tony. I am a Chartered Building Surveyor dealing mostly in commercial projects in the private sector and over the years this has encompassed works to a number of schools. I have enjoyed being involved in the development of the school in recent years through the construction of the new nursery extension and the forthcoming projects to improve the layout of the school to suit today’s educational needs.
Mrs A. Frain Bell - Staff Governor
I have a long association with St Mary’s: firstly as a parent, PTA Chair and Parent Governor when the school had “Beacon“ status, then joining the staff as Librarian in 1999. Since 2008 I have worked enthusiastically to incorporate sports competition opportunities to our pupils and have secured a Silver Kitemark for school. Every year is a new challenge and, I see, a new opportunity.
Previously I have worked in marketing, crisis management and moved into general management when I opened a company division in France. I have also worked as a volunteer for the Diocese as a Marriage Care Counsellor and in the parish as a Confirmation Catechist.
I am married and our 3 daughters have all received an excellent foundation in their education here.
